K 9/16” & 15mm wrench
K Jackstands and jack
K Liquid penetrant and rubber lubricant
DISASSEMBLY
2. Slip the muffler onto the intermediate pipe with a
3-1/2" band clamp on the front. Note: Inlet end of
muffler is marked. Snug the clamp so you can adjust
the system later.
1. Raise vehicle and support with proper jackstands for
the weight, leaving the suspension hanging.
2. Use caution around hot exhaust systems to avoid
burns.
3. Install a 3-1/2" band clamp on the front of the
overaxle pipe and engage it into the stock rubber
hanger as you slip it into the muffler. Snug the
clamps.
3. Use penetrating oil on all nuts and bolts.
Note: Some 2001 and newer GM Trucks have a
brace bar attached to the left and right side frame
rails. Remove bolt and swing bar out of the way
during installation.
4. Provided in the installation kit are 2 hanger clamp
assemblies. Using the correct one for the year of
your vehicle, slip the clamp over the outlet of the
overaxle pipe and engage into the rubber hanger
#23-4041 for 1999-2002, and #23-4042 for 2003-
2006 model year.
4. Remove the bolts and clamps from the system and
lubricate the rubber hangers.
5. Use a long pry bar to pull the rubber hangers off of
the pipe hangers.
5. Slip tailpipe onto overaxle pipe, and snug the hanger
clamp.
6. Remove the old system. In some cases, you will find
it easier to cut the overaxle pipe to remove it.
6. Working from the front of the system, align and
tighten each pipe from the cat-back.
ASSEMBLY
7. Check for clearance to body, frame, and driveline as
you tighten the system from front to rear.
1. Bolt I-Pipe to factory outlet flange (behind catalytic
converters). Make sure that you have engaged the
stock rubber hanger with the wire hanger welded to
the pipe.
8. Re-attach the brace bar to frame rail (if equipped).
9. Check for leaks and correct, if any is found.
Note: Do not tighten flange bolts at this time,(snug
only).
WARNING!!!
Exhaust gas contains carbon monoxide, a deadly invisible gas. Correct any leaks before driving!
