The siren detector does not
detect smoke. It only detects the
sound from a smoke alarm.
•
We suggest you use a Radio
Shack Cat. No. 49-466 Smoke
Alarm with the siren detector.
Other smoke alarms might not
work properly.
•
Be sure you test the siren detec-
tor as described under “Testing”
on Page 12.

INSTALLATION
INSTALLING THE
BATTERY
1. Slide off the battery compartment
cover.
2. Connect a 9-volt alkaline battery
(Cat. No. 23-553) to the battery
connector. Then place the bat-
tery in the compartment.

3. Replace the battery compart-
ment cover.
Note: Changing the detector’s bat-
tery sometimes triggers the fire
alarm. If this happens, turn off the
alarm system then turn it on again.

CONNECTING TO THE
SYSTEM
Follow these steps to add the siren
detector to your alarm system.
1. Press LEARN on the system’s
base. The LEARN indicator
flashes.

2. Enter your access code on the
base’s keypad. The LEARN indi-
cator lights and the next avail-
able zone’s indicator flashes.

3. Press TEST on the siren detector.
The system stores the detector’s
settings in the next available
zone, lights the zone’s indicator,
and sounds a brief tone.
Note: To assign the siren detec-
tor to a zone other than the next
available zone, enter the desired
zone number. For example, to
assign the detector to Zone 5,
press 05. Then press TEST on
the detector.

MOUNTING THE
DETECTOR
To ensure the siren detector de-
tects the smoke alarm when it
sounds, mount the detector 4–6
inches from a UL-approved smoke
alarm (Cat. No. 49-466).
Follow these steps to mount the de-
tector.
1. At the desired mounting location,
drill two holes 13/4 inches apart,
one above the other.

2. Thread the supplied screws into
the holes until each screw’s head

extends about /4 inch from the
wall.
3. Line up the keyhole slots on the
detector with the screws on the
mounting location, then slide the
detector down onto the screws
until it is secure.
After you mount the siren detector,
be sure you test it as described un-
der “Testing” on Page 12.

Notes:
•
The siren detector can also
detect other loud sounds (ste-
reos, musical instruments, and
so on). Be sure you mount the
detector in a location that mini-
mizes false alarms.
•
If the battery is not installed, the
red safety tab inside the detector
prevents you from mounting the
detector.

TESTING
To test the siren detector, hold
down the smoke alarm’s test button
until its siren sounds. The indicator
on the siren detector flashes briefly
and the base sounds an alarm.
CANCEL
Press
on the base to si-
lence the base’s alarm.
Notes:
•
You might have to hold down the
smoke alarm’s test button for as
long as 15 seconds. The siren
detector has a delay function to
help prevent false alarms.
•
We suggest you perform this test
once a week to be sure the siren
detector operates properly.

UNINSTALLING
Follow these steps to remove the
siren detector.
LEARN
1. Press
on the base. Then
enter your access code.

2. Enter the zone number for the
siren detector. The correspond-
ing zone indicator flashes.
CANCEL
3. Press
on the base while
the indicator flashes. The indica-
tor turns off.
CANCEL
4. Press
again.

defects in material and workmanship for ninety (90) days from
the date of purchase from Radio Shack company owned stores
and authorized Radio Shack franchisees and dealers. Within
this period Radio Shack will repair the security product without
charge for parts and labor. Simply bring your Radio Shack
sales slip as proof-of-purchase date to any Radio Shack store.
This warranty does not cover damage or failure caused by or
attributable to Acts of God, abuse, misuse, improper or abnor-
mal usage, faulty installation, improper maintenance, lightning
or other incidence of excess voltage, or any repairs other than
those provided by a Radio Shack Authorized Service Facility, or
transportation costs. Radio Shack is not responsible or lia-
ble for indirect, special, or consequential damages arising
out of or in connection with the use or performance of the
product or other damages with respect to loss of property,
loss of revenues or profit, or costs of removal, installation
or reinstallation.
EXCEPT AS PROVIDED HEREIN, RADIO SHACK MAKES
