Note
The firmware update for the Leica S (type 006) contains all
lens firmware updates. After updating your camera, carry out
an update for your lenses if necessary.
- Auto bracketing and self-timer settings are saved in the
user profiles and are active after a restart when previously
activated
- The color temperature of the rear panel display has been
optimized

During the firmware update, you should not:
- Turn off the camera
- Remove the battery
- Detach the lens
- Remove the memory card
- The multifunction hand grip may not be attached
FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS MAY RESULT
IN SERIOUS DAMAGE TO YOUR CAMERA!
If your camera's functionality is restricted after carrying out
the firmware update, contact your Leica dealer or your local
Leica Customer Care center.

Copy the firmware to a CF or SD memory card
Install the firmware update
Preparing the card (formatting):
1. Remove the card properly from your card reader, insert the
card into the camera and close the bottom cover.
2. Press and hold the joystick on the rear of the camera and
turn on the camera. The update process starts after a few
seconds. You can now release the joystick. The update
process is shown as a graphic in the monitor and may take
several minutes.
1. Format the memory card in the camera. Information about
formatting the memory card can be found in the camera
manual.
Important:
When you format the memory card, all the data on it –
including protected files – will be deleted and cannot be
recovered without the use of specialist software.
3. When the installation has been completed successfully,
turn off the camera. When you turn it on again, the latest
firmware is active and can be checked in the menu (see
Step 1).
2. Insert the formatted memory card into the relevant card
slot on your PC, or use an external card reader.
3. Copy the file S_006_2_3_0_0.FW to the master directory
(*1) on the memory card.
Note:
If the battery does not have sufficient charge, a corresponding
warning message appears in the monitor on the camera.
(1) Master directory = Top level of memory card - do not copy to one of the
folders.

Instructions for installing the
Check the current firmware version
Install the lens firmware update

Leica recommends updating the lens firmware if you are no
longer running the latest version.
1. Remove the memory card from your camera and close the
cover.
2. Press and hold the joystick/5-way button/AF/AE lock
button on the rear of the camera and turn on the camera.
The update process starts after a few seconds. You can
now release the joystick. The update process is shown as a
graphic in the monitor and may take several minutes.
3. When the installation has been completed successfully, turn
off the camera. When you turn it on again, the latest lens
firmware is active and can be checked in the menu (see
Step 5). You can now use your lens with the latest firmware
version.
Important:
To update the lens firmware, the latest camera firmware
must be installed on your camera. The relevant lens must
be attached to perform a lens firmware update.
1. Attach the relevant lens to the camera.
2. Turn on the camera.
3. Open the camera menu with one of the function buttons
and select the "Firmware" option in the "Setup" category
using the setting dial or the joystick/5-way button.
4. Press the setting dial or the joystick/5-way button to
confirm. The camera and lens firmware versions are
displayed.
4. Repeat this procedure for all your S lenses by attaching
each of the lenses to the camera in turn and updating the
firmware version.
5. If the firmware for the attached lens is not the latest
available version, a corresponding message appears to
inform you of this. You should carry out a firmware update.
6. Turn the camera off again.
Note:
If the battery does not have sufficient charge, a corresponding
